Women’s soccer wins two, loses one

The women’s soccer team faced a 3-0 home defeat to open up their first GSAC game against The Master's College. The strong defense by the opposing team eliminated any goals by the Eagles’ offensive team. Master’s stopped five goal attempts, and Biola struggled to get down the field early.

Cross country teams place well

The Biola cross country teams ran their last Division 1 invitational on Saturday in Riverside. The Biola women's cross country team recorded a 5th place finish among a contingent of 34 teams, while the men’s team placed 14th out of 25 with both teams making great times due to the lack of muddy or rugged terrain which made for a fast paced course at the UC Riverside invitational on Saturday.

Danielle Gomes, 21, is a nursing major from Hanford, Calif. and is a mid-distance runner on the cross country and track team. Nick Bautista, 21, is a business major from Orange, Calif. who plays center midfield for Biola men’s soccer.

Women’s volleyball still undefeated

Another week, another two wins for Biola’s undefeated volleyball team. On Saturday, Biola traveled to San Diego to take on the then fifth-ranked Point Loma Sea Lions. Biola wrapped up the evening by winning with little difficulty, finishing 25-10, 25-18 and 25-17, while holding Point Loma to a minuscule .038 hitting percentage.

Biola fall sports start strong

While most of the students arrive a few days before school starts, most of the athletes have been here at least a week longer. Fall sports begin immediately when school starts and right now they are in full swing. Biola’s fall sports are off to a great start.

The dangers of sleep deprivation

Most people, especially students, regularly operate in a state of sleep deprivation. Sleep is usually the first thing to be sacrificed in the context of daily life. Who has time to sleep when there are things to be done? The amount of sleep a person needs is based on the individual. Depending on age, lifestyle, sleep homeostasis and circadian rhythms, everyone requires different amounts.

Women’s volleyball continues to prevail over rival teams

It was a busy week for Biola volleyball, as they kicked off their regular season against three GSAC opponents. After a dominating preseason against non-conference competition, the Eagles battled Vanguard, rival Westmont, and San Diego Christian. Biola started the week with a ten-game win streak, the product of two preseason tournaments and matches against NCAA Division II opponents, and hoped to carry over their strong play into their first real test of the season, played last Thursday against 13th ranked Vanguard University.

Men’s soccer takes down the Academy of the Arts
After a 48-year history of soccer at Biola, the men’s team has set the highest winning record for the start of a season with a 5-0-0 record so far this year. The Academy of the Arts left Al Barbour field on Monday afternoon with a 4-1 deficit loss against the Eagles of Biola, and a long ride home to San Francisco ahead. The Eagles out shot the Knights 24-6.

Getting to know your transfer athletes

Josh Miller is a transfer student from Chino Hills, Calif. He has transferred from the University of San Diego where he played basketball. Kennedy Chongo is a transfer student from Lusaka, Zambia. He transferred from Trinity International University and is now on Biola’s men’s soccer team.
