The women’s soccer team faced a 3-0 home defeat to open up their first GSAC game against The Master’s College. The strong defense by the opposing team eliminated any goals by the Eagles’ offensive team. Master’s stopped five goal attempts, and Biola struggled to get down the field early. The Mustangs’ quick offensive run effectively produced eight attempts and three goals. However, the Eagles did not look back from this loss but instead used it to gear up into their next scheduled game against a tougher NCAA Division III college. The motivated players pressed forward on Monday, with key plays from junior Kahlie Reinecke. Her goal and assist to sophomore Caitlin Peterson helped Biola gain a 2-1 victory over UC Santa Cruz on their home field.

The strong momentum helped refocus the team on what to do at the next game against Vanguard University in their second GSAC game. The Eagles fought well to force the game over the 90-minute mark with two first half goals from both teams. Overtime ended with another game winning performance from Reinecke who deflected ball past the Lions’ goalie to win the game.

Head coach Todd Elkins’ new direction seems to be a good start, and the future of women’s soccer looks promising. The Eagles are now 5-2-0 in the season and 1-1-0 in GSAC conference play.
