Women’s volleyball continues to prevail over rival teams
It was a busy week for Biola volleyball, as they kicked off their regular season against three GSAC opponents. After a dominating preseason against non-conference competition, the Eagles battled Vanguard, rival Westmont, and San Diego Christian. Biola started the week with a ten-game win streak, the product of two preseason tournaments and matches against NCAA Division II opponents, and hoped to carry over their strong play into their first real test of the season, played last Thursday against 13th ranked Vanguard University.

Men’s soccer takes down the Academy of the Arts
After a 48-year history of soccer at Biola, the men’s team has set the highest winning record for the start of a season with a 5-0-0 record so far this year. The Academy of the Arts left Al Barbour field on Monday afternoon with a 4-1 deficit loss against the Eagles of Biola, and a long ride home to San Francisco ahead. The Eagles out shot the Knights 24-6.

Getting to know your transfer athletes
Josh Miller is a transfer student from Chino Hills, Calif. He has transferred from the University of San Diego where he played basketball. Kennedy Chongo is a transfer student from Lusaka, Zambia. He transferred from Trinity International University and is now on Biola’s men’s soccer team.

Biola alum Solomon Mercado tears up the Filipino courts
The 2007 Biola graduate who once dominated Biola’s Chase Gymnasium was drafted into the Philippine Basketball Association as the fifth overall pick during the annual draft held on Aug. 31, 2008 at Market! Market! in Taguig, Philippines. Originally nabbed by the Philippine Alaska Aces (formerly known as Welcoat), Mercado explained the predetermined trade that sent him almost immediately to his new team, Rain or Shine, allowing him to play alongside top rookie pick, Gabe Norwood.

The importance of eating protein
We have heard it said that proteins are the building blocks of our bodies. This is the truth. In fact, every cell in the human body contains protein. It is found in our tissues, organs and even in our blood stream. Hundreds of the body’s proteins can be broken down into basic units that are known as the 22 amino acids.

Sports programs expand as new year begins
Biola University is growing at a rapid pace; this incoming class of students is the largest in the school’s history. Among them are over 100 new athletes who have joined the Biola athletic arena. Biola has expanded its athletic department to 17 varsity sports and nearly 250 athletes - that doesn't even include the club sports.

Women’s volleyball starts season in fourth place nationally
The Biola women’s volleyball team kicks off its 2008 campaign ranked fourth after making it to the semifinals of last year’s national championship. They look to build on that effort in the hyper-competitive GSAC after returning all of their starters, while coach Aaron Seltzer has also brought in five freshman recruits.
