Women’s soccer takes down Wesleyan at home

Despite losing an early lead, the Eagles scored in the second half and defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 2-1.

Biola women’s soccer was able to come out on top in their game against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday. The win puts the Eagles’ record at 3-2.

After two attempts, Biola was able to get their first goal. Junior defender Michelle Clark found senior forward Chrissy King, who pushed the ball past Wesleyan’s defenders to slam the ball into the opposite corner past Wesleyan’s goalie.

The lead didn’t last long though. In the 24th minute, Wesleyan’s midfielder Ana Popov drove past the Eagles’ defense to score from 15 yards out to tie up the game.

For the rest of the half, it was a battle to keep possession of the ball. Neither side scored, and the first half ended with the score still 1-1. Biola led Wesleyan in shot attempts 9-4.

The Eagles came back from the locker room stronger in the second half. Wesleyan forward Paula Vicenso attempted to score, but junior goalkeeper Briana Williams blocked it with ease.

Biola attempted a shot in the 50th minute, but Wesleyan goalkeeper Lauren Mohamed dove to save the shot.

Forward Paula Vicenzo for Wesleyan went up against Williams in an attempt to take the lead. Williams was drawn out in the 49th minute. Williams was able to snatch the ball away from Vicenzo and shut out Wesleyan for the rest of the match.

Junior forward Miranda Starbeck scored the game-winning goal for Biola off of a free kick in the 64th minute. Biola shut down Wesleyan’s offense for the rest of the game to seal a win 2-1.

Biola will take on the University of Antelope Valley on Sept. 14th at Al Barbour field at 1:30 p.m.
