Men’s soccer takes down San Diego Christian, women finish with hopes for next year
Saturday, the Biola Eagles men’s soccer team took the field against the San Diego Christian College Hawks. The Eagles, who were fighting for a place in the GSAC playoffs, won the game 2-0. The women’s team also took the field Saturday against San Diego Christian College. The women were not in contention for a playoff spot, but look to capping off a year filled with improvements on last season and have hopes for the next.
Women’s volleyball splits with top-ranked competition, still climbs national rankings
The Lady Eagles' dream season continued Saturday night as they knocked off No. 2 Concordia University in a five-set thriller at Chase Gymnasium. The win bumped Biola up a spot in the national rankings from No. 3 to No 2. As the Eagles' season begins to wind down, they have now beat 11 opponents ranked in the top 25 nationally; their new ranking is the highest in team history.
International sports students appreciate their Biola opportunities
Most Biola athletes will mention what a unique opportunity they have to play sports at Biola with a focus not solely on winning, but on representing Jesus Christ while playing. But for international students, the chance to express their beliefs while on the field was not only as foreign an idea as the land they came to, but a can’t-miss opportunity.
Women’s volleyball continues domination
Biola continued to dominate GSAC opponent Point Loma with a 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20 victory Saturday night. Led once again by senior outside hitters Meghan Warkentin, Jessica Buffum and Kelsey Mitchell, the Eagles piled up the kills against the vaunted Point Loma blockers. As a team, Biola hit at a .330 clip, recording eight blocks.
Men and women’s soccer struggle through a tough week
Missed opportunities and an unfortunate red card spelled doom for Biola men’s soccer as they fell to league rivals Azusa Pacific University Wednesday and Westmont College Saturday. The Lady Eagles soccer team didn’t fare much better than the men as they also took on Westmont and APU, losing both games by a tight margin as well.

Women’s volleyball: Moving up the ladder
The highly anticipated Biola vs. Cal Baptist volleyball match took place on Saturday night with parents and students filling every seat of Chase Gymnasium. Coming into the match ranked fourth in the nation, Biola opened the match with every intention of claiming CBU’s No. 3 ranking. Despite their attempts to hold off the Eagles, Biola made it look easy against the Lancer squad, overwhelming them with scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 26-24.
Coach values relationships and team building
In just 12 years, John Wooden masterminded 10 national championships for the UCLA Bruins. Pete Carroll guided the USC football program to five Bowl Championship Series victories in just seven seasons. As amazing as those feats are, Dave Holmquist, Biola athletic director and men’s head basketball coach boasts his own impressive record.
Tough week for women’s soccer
Point Loma picked up its first conference win 2-1 against Biola on Saturday, Oct. 4, dropping the Eagles to 1-2-0 in conference play and 5-3-0 overall.
