AS is likely short around $38,000 due to accounting errors carried over from last year, said Kari Walton, AS vice president of finance. The money was supposed to be in the AS contingency fund, which is used for “incidental expenses,” and to fund student proposals to the AS Senate, said AS President Eric Weaver.

More than $65,000 was raised for Biola University’s scholarship fund and athletics at the university’s annual golf tournament, which drew a record 184 golfers Monday. The tournament is one of Biola’s key component events directly aiding students, said Rick Bee, senior director of Alumni and Friends.

Torrey Memorial Bible Conference finished strong Friday morning with a word from Mike Erre, teaching pastor of RockHarbor church, on sex and its effects on the soul. The closing session alternated worship songs with prayer and reflection on what had been heard that week.

An airplane ride away, Teres Olson couldn’t wait to get some one-on-one time with her daughter Beverly, a Biola sophomore majoring in elementary education. After all, being from the small, rural town of Kerrville, Texas, Beverly can’t exactly come home every weekend to visit. Olson was just one mother among many parents last weekend who were united once again with their student for the university’s annual Parent Weekend.

If projections are correct, young voters will have a larger than ever impact on the outcome of November's general election. The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement reported the national turnout rate for youth voters rose from 9 percent in the 2000 primaries to 17 percent in this past spring's primaries, likely indicating increased participation in the General Election.
