Biola investments safe for the time being

Despite a crippled market, which has experienced in recent weeks the takeover over of several major financial institutions, as well as the largest ever single-day point decline for the Dow Jones industrial average, Biola’s Finance department is not too concerned — yet.

Pastors across the country endorse presidential candidates

Last Sunday, 33 pastors in 22 states intentionally challenged the government by injecting political endorsements into their sermons. The event was billed “Pulpit Freedom Sunday” by the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative, Arizona-based legal group that organized the protest in an effort to get the law regarding tax-exempt organizations and political activism overturned, reported the Associated Press.

Board approves construction of new parking structure

The baseball fields and freshmen cars are here to stay – Biola’s Board of Trustees unanimously agreed this weekend to pursue building a five-story parking structure to alleviate overcrowding. The structure will be constructed in lower Lot I, between the baseball field and the existing soccer field / parking structure.

Romney backs former opponent at Calif. GOP convention

For the peace of the world, it is essential that the United States remain a world power, said former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney on Saturday at the California Republican Party Convention in Anaheim. “The best ally peace has ever known and will know is a strong America,” he said.

At Republican convention, former governor pushes for redistricting

Former Gov. Pete Wilson took the stage at the California Republican Party Convention during lunch Saturday, emphasizing the importance of a multi-front Republican victory in what has long been considered a “blue state.” He believes redrawing the boundaries for voting districts could swing California towards "red state" status.

‘Governator’ kicks off state Republican Party convention in Anaheim

Politicians who gathered at the Anaheim Marriott Friday night for the California Republican Convention got a special treat – a visit from the “Governator.”
While waiting for the guest of honor, delegates ate dinner while watching Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama square off in the first of several debates over the next few weeks.

First poetry lounge draws large crowds

The Poetry Lounge-the best spoken word, poetry, and singing on this side of heaven! The event featured talented locals, students, and recent Biola graduates. Poets such as Diana Ovando-Lopez, Curtis Jones, Jose Palos, and Janet Jun were some of those featured at the event.

AS Provides the First Metzger Lunch of the Year

Meal habit was broken today as students were redirected to Metzger lawn for a more interactive lunch break. AS put on the first outdoor meal of the year in BBQ and southwest style.

Music at Noon provides relaxing afternoons

Last Wednesday, the sound of smooth bass riffs and snare rolls reverberated through campus as the first Music at Noon was held near the SUB, featuring music from “Rique Pantoja and Friends,” a Los Angeles area Christian jazz group.

La Mirada celebrates its second annual Olive Festival

Local residents of La Mirada came together at La Mirada Regional Park last Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the city’s second annual Olive Festival. The festival provided a variety of attractions including a food fair, live music and a classic car show.
