AS Senate Rundown: March 17, 2009

Notes from the AS Senate meeting on March 17, 2009.

1. Biola Film Music Guild Conference Web site (Proposal)

  • Dave Martina, president of Film Music Guild; Katherine Devine, project managaer; and Kyle Chezum, marketing director, are asking AS for funding to redesign their Web site. The site will serve as the primary marketing tool for the Film Music Guild Conference 2009 to be held this October.
  • The goal of the conference and the music guild is to help Biola gain academic credibility in the media world, competing against prestigious film programs like USC and Chapman University.
  • The conference will offer seminars with prominent composers who will help film majors learn to tell holistic stories in their films. In addition, these seminars will feature faculty from USC. Tickets will be discounted by $5 for Biola students and the early sale price prior to June 1 is $20.
  • The project budget is $15,000 and the Guild is asking AS for only $1,000. The new Web site is projected to cost $3,500.

2. Commuters’ Murder Mystery Party (Proposal)

  • Proposal was brought to the Senate by Commuter Senators Justin de Vesta and Cynthia Pimentel, who want to repeat the event that was held last year.
  • The party would be held on May 2, the weekend before finals.
  • The senators are asking for $300 from AS, $150 budgeted toward the mystery party package and the remaining $150 for snacks and refreshments.

3. VP of Marcom Update

  • The AS Election/Presidential debate to take place 9 p.m., March 26 and is designed to encourage people to vote and inform students about the candidates.
  • T-shirts will be worn by AS staff members and other supporters as to advertise a “Rock the Vote” type of slogan.

4. Mock Rock

  • March 27 at 8 p.m. in the gym, with doors opening around 7:45 p.m. Early arrival is encouraged with giveaways.
