PORTER AND DINIUS
“Own Your Legacy”
Matthew Porter, vice president of finance and junior accounting major, and Catherine Dinius, clubs coordinator, junior communications major, centered their Associated Students campaign around improving community on campus through helping students pursue their passions and interests. Both candidates currently hold positions in Associated Students and anticipate the transition from AS to SGA will provide opportunities to introduce new initiatives next year. Their slogan developed after witnessing students who wanted to turn their hobbies into a reality on campus.
“We want to get out of the office and be more involved in the community,” Dinius said.
Campaign platform points:
- Fireside chats — monthly meetings with student concerns
- Online bulletin board — website for students’ advertisements
- House of Representatives — department representatives elected to voice concerns
STRIBBLING AND MATTOCKS
“Internal Change / External Growth”
Taylor Stribbling, junior sociology major, and Drew Mattocks, junior PR major, centered their Associated Students campaign around facilitating a change within AS that overflows to the rest of the Biola community. Both candidates are currently involved in resident life and have been involved in AS, as well as various organizations on campus. If elected, Stribbling will be the first female president in a long time.
“It can either be for me or against me in this challenge,” Stribbling said.
Campaign platform points:
- Increasing student forums
- Utilizing existing resources
- Making senators reach their potential
- Increasing student initiatives
- Increasing reputation and reach within local community
LEE
“Gather to worship. Scatter to witness”
Brady Lee, junior Christian ministries major, centered his Student Missionary Union campaign around having trips where students can learn to share the gospel and help his staff have a love for Jesus and others around them. His slogan developed because of Lee’s love of the SMU’s mission statement of the completion of the Great Commission. Lee runs unopposed for the position of SMU president.
“I really love SMU’s mission statement which is to motivate and mobilize students to align their hearts with the completion of the great commission and I just want to inspire and equip students to do missions,” Lee said.
Campaign platform points:
- Witnessing trips where students can go out into the community and share the gospel with people
- Gospel training workshops to help students overcome their fear of evangelism
- Encourage staff to have a love for the Lord and others
