Campus Safety arrested an off-campus visitor for an attempted bike robbery at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers caught the suspect stealing a student’s unlocked bicycle from the bike racks located by the Caf, said Campus Safety Chief John Ojeiskhoba.

Campus Safety turned over the suspect to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department who arrived on campus between Sigma and Alpha dormitories.

“People do negative stuff. With students we have to give people the ability to redeem themselves and grow. Off-campus people that commit crimes we tend to be harsh on,” Ojeiskhoba said.

The university will press charges for petty theft against the suspect, Ojeiskhoba said.

Campus Safety asks that students take precautions and secure bicycles with a u-lock and to register bicycles with the campus safety office.
