The Biola chorale will be hosting its annual Coffee House event Dec. 7 in the library courtyard. Thirty-four students are putting on a fundraising event that will help them travel and perform in various countries, according to the event’s Facebook page.
“The money we raise with Coffee House helps fund the chorale to travel all over the world to spread joy and touch people's hearts in a way only music can,” Brianna Beard, music education major and coffee house coordinator, wrote on the page.
The event is set to start at 7:30 p.m. and end around 9:30 p.m. Coffee and tea will be offered, as well as cookies and pastries. A donation to the chorale is suggested in place of an admissions charge.
“The event is going to be really cool, with awesome prizes like movie tickets and year-round bagels from Panera,” said Anna Kietzman, a junior music composition major and a member of the chorale.
The Biola chorale is a group consisting mostly of voice majors on campus. The main genres the group focuses on are traditional works, jazz and gospel. It has had the opportunity to travel nationwide and even to countries like Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Italy to perform, according to the chorale’s website.
A COMMUNITY EVENT
Performers include not only students but also individuals in the community.
“The goal is not only to put on a good show, but also reach out and minister to the community members,” Beard said.
Performances will consist of singer-songwriters, duos, and even involvement from the students who attend, according to Beard.
“Music conservatory students have put together their own arrangements of worship songs,” she said.
Biola’s vocal jazz choir will also make an appearance at the event. There will be an opportunity for students to sing along and get into the holiday spirit, according to Kietzman. However, Beard said the whole night will not be dedicated to Christmas.
“Frank Sinatra and George Gershwin will also be played,” she said.
The Biola chorale host’s this event every year but it seem this year is different because of how the chorale wants to give back to the community.
