AS Senate Rundown: Dec. 6, 2011

AS senators held their last meeting of the semester on Dec. 6 and discussed ideas for the senior gift.

As senators will not be working during finals next week, the senate quietly concluded the fall semester with a short meeting that included an enthusiastic birthday song to Jesus and senators with birthdays over winter break, ideas for the senior gift and a discussion about rounds following last week’s budget meeting.

    • Senior Kelsey Seitz, vice president of services, noted that Study Break, which is taking place on Sunday, Dec. 11, is the last Associated Students event of the semester. Seitz announced upcoming spring semester events, including the redesigned Red Sea shirt giveaway, free for freshmen, at the basketball game against Azusa Pacific University on Jan. 31. Clubs Fair will be taking place on Feb. 16 and 17 and Spirit Week begins Feb. 19.

  • Senators brainstormed ideas for the senior gift. Senior Ryan Freudenburg, senior vice president, said the goal was to reach $5,000 and possibly partner with Greg Balsano and University Services again.
  • Senators discussed successes and failures of rounds, which senators usually do once a week to talk with residents about proposals, events, questions and feedback. Many senators expressed that they had struggled to connect with students but wanted to work on creating more unity. Junior Dani Decena, South Horton senator, hoped to collaborate with other upper campus senators to work on an upper campus event to stimulate community.
