At 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon a light post displaying a banner fell and shattered across the walkway between Crowell Hall and the cafeteria.
According to Charlie Garbarini, supervisor of trades and maintenance, the cause of the fall was a combination of having the light post just below the grass line, where water had corroded and weakened the metal.
The new diversity banner, which hung on both sides of the post served as a sail to push the pole down, said Garbarini.
Meanwhile they have ordered another lamp post with thicker steel and plan on checking other posts for similar problems.
"No one was hurt," said Garbarini. "Thank God for that."
