Birthdays. When I hear this word I instantly think of most birthdays, which usually involve throwing parties, giving thoughtful gifts and letting someone know they are appreciated. Well, what should our amazing school receive on its own historic birthday? What would truly benefit Biola and the deserving students walking the campus on a regular basis? Let’s start dreaming!
First of all, food is most certainly a necessity and an important everyday aspect of our lives as students. When the Caf is closed, wouldn’t it be nice to have a Subway, Panda Express or a Jamba Juice that you could conveniently go to right here on campus? As much as we all love Eagles Nest, this plethora of venders would provide us with the luxury of a wide variety of choices that would only add to the incredible food scene at Biola.
Another student problem: parking spots. This appears to be a major crisis for many Biola students. Who wants to agonize about racing back to fight for the next available parking spot? Biola’s students should be rewarded with a two story parking structure, stretching from Horton to Sigma, therefore not taking up any more space but solving many a parking spot problem.
Spirit in a school is also a crucial aspect of student life. Everyone loves our Biola store; however, I think we could use the creativity of art majors in designing more fashionable Biola wear. What about some flannels? V-necks? Don’t forget about purchasing some mannequins to display this new attire. Speaking of the bookstore, it would be very beneficial to expand the small food sections into a miniature grocery store with all the basic necessities that Biola students need. This would automatically eliminate time-consuming runs to the store. The store could even add a birthday section with cakes, brownies and cupcakes, while helping us with last minute pre-made birthday surprises that we could easily access.
For the ladies (but also for the men): Many of us walk around the Biola campus late at night and can only dream of prince charming coming by on his white horse to escort us safely back to our castles. Biola should create a Biola taxi service that would be most helpful to the ladies that don’t want to walk around campus or La Mirada in the late hours of the night. These taxies could even be driven by Biola men, opening up another way to make some extra cash while helping out a damsel in distress and possibly finding their one true love – or at least a phone number or two. It’s a win-win for everyone!
On the entertainment side, are you tired of having to drive to see a decent movie and the expensive prices? Biola could have its own movie theater right here on campus, featuring cheap prices and great movies. There are many entertainment possibilities, and as you all know, Horton has an impressive basement equipped with a kitchen and a laundry room, but what about making it even better with lets say, a bowling alley?
Also, sports play a major role at Biola, but we are sadly lacking in one area: football. We claim to have an undefeated team since 1908 on our Biola bookstore t-shirts, but really, it would be nice if that was actually a true statement. If possible, can Biola purchase a football team? Or on the more realistic side, how about improving our fitness center by constructing a two-story tall building with additions, such as, more machines, benches, weights and of course more flat screen TV’s, and maybe even an indoor pool. Maybe this new improvement would inspire a football team to suddenly form! We will see.
Lastly, for me personally and all the lovely ladies out there, I believe it would be greatly appreciated if a shipment of more Biola boys came in and we would finally have an even ratio! But we could only be dreaming, so these ideas will have to do for now. Happy Birthday Biola!
