Sharing the Gospel can be difficult or intimidating, but with the upstart of the new Office of Spiritual Life, students are equipped to be healthy ministers of the gospel in the church and to the world, according to their new page on Biola’s Web site.
What used to be known as the Department of Student Ministries is now the Office of Spiritual Life, with a new mission and a new vision. According to their Web site, Spiritual Life values that students become anchored in God’s Word, Biblical servant leaders, models of Christ-like character, builders of the church and messengers of the gospel.
The Office of Spiritual life has shifted their focus to ministering God’s grace, truth and redemption to the world throughout students’ lives. Instead of mainly offering ministry opportunities for students to participate in, Spiritual Life has taken an individual approach to help students grow in their faith and be able to share the Gospel.
Barbara Miller, the director of Spiritual Life, states in her opening welcome on the Spiritual Life Web site, “We’re in the business of developing fruitful ministers, not just successful ministries.”
Spiritual Life plans to aid students in the charge to be ministers of the Gospel by providing a structure for small growth groups, evangelistic outreaches, mission trips, urban ministries and local church involvement.
“Spiritual Life better describes our purpose, focusing more on truth and transformation and more into apologetics and evangelism,” says Tina Unfried, Administrative Assistant to the Office of Spiritual Life. “We want Biola Students to be able to share their testimonies and the Message.”
