If you love chess or are interested in playing, check out the Biola Chess club, led by sophomore business administrator Elijah Chen.

ACTIVITIES

The Chess Club meets every Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at BUSN 103. Multiple chessboards are set up on tables, and people are invited to come play matches with one another.

“We have people from all ranges come and play,” Chen said. “We’ve had people who are very interested and like to play chess a lot to people who have never played before, but are still hyped to play.”

Chen’s goal for the club is to be open to a wide variety of players so that more people can play the game. He brings snacks to the meetings and occasionally hosts informal chess lessons.

A GOOD TIME

According to Chen, the Chess Club is recreational, and no one is competitive in a way that sours the mood.

“There’s no hierarchy,” Chen said. “So I really enjoy how everyone has come, just ready to play and that’s it. They’re not trying to prove they’re the best or anything. They just want to play chess and have a good time playing with other people.”
