Women’s track team dominates at Oxy Distance Carnival

The Biola women’s track team competed in the 800m run and 5000m race among four total events at the Oxy Distance Carnival hosted by Occidental College, with solid results across the board.

In the 800m freshman Maggie Williams took first with a time of 2:11:57, leading the team. Four Biolans finished in the top five. Hannah Champness led the Eagles by taking second with a time of 2:15:76; meanwhile, Hailey Wurzbach took 3rd with a time of 2:16:29 and Jordan Gosset took fifth with a time of 2:18:27.

On the men’s side, junior from South Africa Melt Von Moldendorff snagged seventh in the 800m with a speedy time of 155:53.

WOMEN DOMINATE 5K

In the 5K race, Biola’s women’s team continued to dominate as Lynette Ruiz won the whole race with a time of 17:01:36, as junior Britta Holmberg finished within the top 10 and teammates senior Grace Catena, freshman Lolo Landrith, and freshman Karis Brown in 11th, 12th, and 15th respectively. 

Biola’s track and field team looks to their next meet, the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational, on Saturday, March 18.
