Biola’s men’s and women’s soccer teams continued conference play against Hawaii Hilo on Saturday. The men’s team won 2-0, while the women’s team fell 3-0 against the visitors.

COLACI SCORING CONTINUES

Junior forward Kristian Colaci chipped in his 12th goal of the season for Biola’s first score in the 30th minute. Colaci’s goal ranks him No. 11 in goals scored for NCAA Division II men’s soccer. The Eagles scored early again in the second half, courtesy of midfielder Moritz Riegel’s goal to lead 2-0. Riegel was set up by first-year midfielder Ethan Hardin’s assist, merely three minutes into the second half. Biola’s two goals on offense were plenty for redshirt junior goalkeeper JD Gunn’s performance on the defensive side of the ball. Gunn recorded his fourth shutout of the season to go along with three saves.

The men’s team remains undefeated in PacWest play (4-0-3) and sits second under Dominican in league standings.

Biola faces Chaminade on Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at Al Barbour Field.

WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM HONORS SENIORS

The Eagles celebrated their eight seniors on Saturday, which includes Frances Andrade, Christian Maranville, Mason Stansberry, Rachel Melvin, Aubrey Fergeson, Katelyn Penner, Catrina Gonzales, and Sarah Freed.

The nationally ranked No. 9 Hawaii Hilo scored a trifecta of goals in the first 20 minutes of the match to lead 3-0. The Vulcans’ highly potent offense outshot the Eagles 9-3 in the first half, but Biola’s defensive effort allowed a mere three shots in the second half.

First-year goalkeeper Savanna Tavares remarkably recorded six saves against UH Hilo.

The women’s team plays Chaminade on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Al Barbour Field.

Caleb Crawley is a junior Interdisciplinary Studies major who enjoys attending sporting events, playing intramural sports and exploring Los Angeles. [email protected] I was born and raised in Fortuna, a small Northern California town located in Humboldt County. Humboldt is an area known for its scenic nature, beaches, redwood forests and our Victorian village known as Ferndale, CA.  Growing up in Northern California during the 2010’s San Francisco Giants dynasty made it easy to fall in love with baseball. Nearly every night I would be glued to the television after my Little League games watching my beloved Giants. At the time I could name every single player on their roster, as well as their batting average. Needless to say, my childhood revolved around the game as I was either playing, watching, or reading about baseball. This passion carried me throughout my high school and community college careers, in which I was on the baseball team during my time at both institutions.  I am elated to bring my love for sports to the Chimes and look forward to the opportunity to tell the stories of Biola athletes from the perspective of a former collegiate baseball player as well as an avid life-long sports fan.
