On Saturday, Oct. 15, Fresno Pacific joined the Eagles in Chase Gymnasium for an exhibition match. The Eagles, who have been on fire lately after winning their last two games in a row, continued their streak. They swept the Sunbirds 3-0 in an overall lopsided performance. Biola had swept their last two opponents as well, which means they have won their past nine sets in a row. Their hot streak improved their record to a solid 12-8.

DOMINATION CONTINUES

Biola drove the game against the Sunbirds. Biola cruised to 25-17 and 25-18 victories in the first two sets, never trailing once. The third and last set was a little closer, but controlled by Biola. Fresno Pacific led briefly at the beginning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Eagles immediately tied the game — then took back the lead for good on a service ace. The Sunbirds made it to 21 in the final set, but the Eagles took the set and game on a faulty Sunbird serve.

Biola dominated the match, putting down eleven aces and eight blocks. The Sunbirds only had four in each of the respective categories. Sophomore right side Anna Aubele led the way in kills for this game. She had 10 of the team’s 33 kills; however, it was a very well-rounded effort by the team.

Up next, Biola anticipates continuing their hot streak at their rival Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. Stats from the match can be found on the Biola Athletics website.

Ryan Wingert is a senior political science major who loves sports, writing and being with friends. I was born in Sioux City, Iowa and lived there until I was five years old. Then in 2005, my dad’s job took my family out here to southern California. After I graduated high school in 2018, I went to community college. I then transferred here to Biola in the midst of the COVID pandemic in 2020.  I love sports, both playing and watching. Basketball, baseball and American football are my favorite sports. I am so excited to be with the Chimes where I get to watch Biola sporting events and write about them! My teams are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Broncos, and the Anaheim Angels. They haven’t been great lately, but my love for the games have pushed me to continue watching them in their abysmal years!  Growing up, I have always loved writing. It was always my favorite part of school through primary school. My future is very unknown, but while I am looking into becoming a lawyer one day, becoming a writer would be an amazing job as well!
