On Friday Sept. 23, Biola’s women’s volleyball team went into Point Loma riding a three-game winning streak. There were high hopes for a team that only had one loss in this season, but the Sea Lions prevailed. Despite taking the first set, Biola lost the following three, resulting in defeat 3-1. Women’s volleyball is now 4-2 on the season.

EAGLES TAKE VICTORY IN FIRST SET

After crushing the Sea Lions 25-26 in the first set, hitting .357%, the momentum looked like it was going to carry into the rest of the game. However, the following three sets belonged to Point Loma as they outscored Biola 78-60 in that span. The two middle sets were not close, but Biola made a strong last set effort before falling 28-26.

EAGLES MAKE STRONG FOURTH SET EFFORT

While relatively quiet the first three sets, outside hitter and junior public relations major Dominique Kirton put on a show in the fourth set. Recording 10 of her 12 hits in the final set, Kirton contributed to the Eagles almost forcing a fifth set. After opening the set down 8-2, Biola rallied to take an 11-10 lead. From there, it was back and forth until the very end. A kill by Point Loma’s Grace Hicks and two Eagle errors allowed the Sea Lions to take three final points in a row and win the game. Errors proved to be a big reason the Eagles dropped this game, as they committed 21 total—with 10 at the service line.

Up next, Biola will return home to face the Chaminade Silverswords on Monday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. Stats from the match can be found on the Biola Athletics website.

Ryan Wingert is a senior political science major who loves sports, writing and being with friends. I was born in Sioux City, Iowa and lived there until I was five years old. Then in 2005, my dad’s job took my family out here to southern California. After I graduated high school in 2018, I went to community college. I then transferred here to Biola in the midst of the COVID pandemic in 2020.  I love sports, both playing and watching. Basketball, baseball and American football are my favorite sports. I am so excited to be with the Chimes where I get to watch Biola sporting events and write about them! My teams are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Broncos, and the Anaheim Angels. They haven’t been great lately, but my love for the games have pushed me to continue watching them in their abysmal years!  Growing up, I have always loved writing. It was always my favorite part of school through primary school. My future is very unknown, but while I am looking into becoming a lawyer one day, becoming a writer would be an amazing job as well!
