Biola’s men’s and women’s soccer teams both competed in non-conference games on Wednesday night. The men’s soccer team tied 1-1 against Cal State San Bernardino at home, and, meanwhile, the women’s soccer team lost 1-0 at Cal State LA.

COLACI CHIPS IN GOAL

Men’s soccer struggled out of the gate as the Eagles scored on their own goal to find themselves trailing by one in the 2nd minute. The Eagles rebounded from the self-inflicted wound to tie the match in the 18th minute, courtesy of redshirt senior defender Izaac Zausch’s assist to junior forward Kristian Colaci’s goal.

Neither Biola nor CSUSB scored for the remainder of the contest, as the Eagles attempted seven shots with the Coyotes totaling sixteen. Redshirt junior goalie JD Gunn anchored the strong defensive effort by recording three saves on Wednesday’s match.

LATE GOAL FAVORS CAL STATE LA

Freshman goalie Savanna Tavares illustrated veteran presence on the field as she recorded five saves against Cal State LA to keep her team in the match. The Golden Eagles’ lone goal came late in the first half, giving the home team advantage into halftime. CSULA’s second half defense disrupted the Eagles’ offensive effort by allowing zero scoring opportunities. Biola managed to record two total shots in the match courtesy of redshirt senior midfielder Frances Andrade and freshman forward Peyton Nelson.

The Biola men’s soccer team will face PacWest rival Azusa Pacific in a home non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The women’s soccer team will play Hope International in an exhibition match at home on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

Caleb Crawley is a junior Interdisciplinary Studies major who enjoys attending sporting events, playing intramural sports and exploring Los Angeles. [email protected] I was born and raised in Fortuna, a small Northern California town located in Humboldt County. Humboldt is an area known for its scenic nature, beaches, redwood forests and our Victorian village known as Ferndale, CA.  Growing up in Northern California during the 2010’s San Francisco Giants dynasty made it easy to fall in love with baseball. Nearly every night I would be glued to the television after my Little League games watching my beloved Giants. At the time I could name every single player on their roster, as well as their batting average. Needless to say, my childhood revolved around the game as I was either playing, watching, or reading about baseball. This passion carried me throughout my high school and community college careers, in which I was on the baseball team during my time at both institutions.  I am elated to bring my love for sports to the Chimes and look forward to the opportunity to tell the stories of Biola athletes from the perspective of a former collegiate baseball player as well as an avid life-long sports fan.

Growing up I never thought I would actually have the chance to leave my hometown of Keizer, Oregon but as college approached my dreams began to work out as I drove 15 hours to a new home, Biola University. These last four years have been a whirlwind of growth and healing. New passions and ideas for my future develop daily, but one thing I have held onto since I was 18 has been photography. I love being able to capture moments and events.  I grew up watching 13 Going on 30 and the original Spiderman movies where the main characters were journalists whether through a magazine or doing freelance photojournalism. I believe that is where my initial interest in journalism began. I have worked with the Chimes previously being an Arts & Entertainment writer, but I am so excited to pursue my main passion of photojournalism as a staff photographer.
