Men’s tennis takes loss against CUI

The Eagles fell 3-4 against the Golden Eagles.

Men’s tennis played in Irvine, California against Concordia University Irvine on March 11 and lost, 3-4, in seven closely fought matches.

CLINCHING THE DOUBLES

The Eagles beat the Golden Eagles in doubles. Juniors Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Varona swept the court with a 6-2 victory over CUI. Junior Sebastian Herrera and graduate Carlos Solorzano clinched the doubles’ point for Biola with a victory of 6-2. Sophomore Callen Hein and freshman Tomas Gomez ended their doubles match unfinished. 

ANOTHER DEFEAT

In singles, CUI swept Biola away with four victories. Herrera’s match finished first, losing 2-6 and 5-7 to the Golden Eagles. Prokopchuk finished second, defeating his opponent 7-6 and 6-3.  Varona lost next, 5-7 and 4-6. 

Gomez was the first athlete to go for three matches, losing his first match 4-6, but coming back in the second match with a 7-6. He fell in the third match to a 2-6 score. Sophomore Alex Sedeno beat his opponent 7-6 and 6-4. Sophomore Isaac Cordova finished his three matches losing 3-6, winning 7-5 and losing 4-6.

The Eagles narrowly lost overall, 3-4. 

Men’s tennis (10-3) will go home to face off against Hawaii Pacific University on March 14 at 3 p.m. Footage and stats from the game are located on the Biola Athletics website.

If you’ve been with me in class, you know that all of my class projects tend to revolve around the Ultimate Fighting Championship and that community. My favorite thing about being a journalist is that I get to write people’s stories and tell it to people who wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. Interviewing people and hearing their story is a real honor, so the responsibility to accurately tell their story to others is a heavy one, but a privilege to bear.
