Women’s tennis played California State University Los Angeles on Feb. 17 in Los Angeles, California and won, 7-0.

CLINCHING DOUBLES

The Eagles had an intense afternoon against the Golden Eagles. Both teams fought hard against each other, the volleys getting returned from each side relentlessly. The first doubles match saw CSULA take the lead, however, Biola turned it around with juniors Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia tying it up. Freshman Alexandria Mann and sophomore Brooke Fager clinched the doubles point with their win.

RESOUNDING VICTORY

In singles, Biola won all six matches, preventing CSULA from marking the scoreboard. Junior Ines Diaz refused to let her opponent score any points on her. She finished first with a 6-0 score both matches. Sophomore Lilly McNeill finished second with her matches scoring 6-4 and 6-0. Brascia took care of business and beat her opponent 6-3 and 6-4.

Emery’s game was the first to go for three matches. She won her first match 7-3, lost her second 3-6 and followed up with a 10-4 win in the third match. Sophomore Gaby Carvajal finished her game fifth with both matches scoring 6-4. To round off the afternoon, Mann went three matches with her opponent. She won her first match 6-4, lost her second 2-6 and finished her third match with a 10-4 score.

Women’s tennis (5-1) will head home to face off against Azusa Pacific University on Feb. 19 at 10:00 a.m. Footage and stats from the game are located on the Biola Athletics website.

Charlotte McKinley is a senior Journalism and Public Relations major who loves the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Stewart Hall, and the oxford comma (unfortunately). Whenever I tell people I’m from Spokane Valley, WA, they inevitably ask me how far from Seattle I am, so I’ll cut to the chase: I’m closer to Montana than I am to Seattle, and no, I don’t go to Seattle regularly. The PNW will always be my home, no matter where I go. I’ve been involved with the Mixed Martial Arts and Jiu Jitsu community for nine years now and am looking forward to making my career writing for the MMA and BJJ community after I graduate from Biola with my degrees in Journalism and Public Relations. If you’ve been with me in class, you know that all of my class projects tend to revolve around the Ultimate Fighting Championship and that community. My favorite thing about being a journalist is that I get to write people’s stories and tell it to people who wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. Interviewing people and hearing their story is a real honor, so the responsibility to accurately tell their story to others is a heavy one, but a privilege to bear.
