Women’s tennis takes rare loss to CUI

Women’s tennis traveled to Irvine, Calif. on Friday afternoon to compete against the No. 20 nationally-ranked Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles. Even with Biola being a solid team and making marks throughout the season, the Eagles were not able to overcome the dominance of CUI, losing 1-4.

SINGLES SHOCKER

The doubles matches flew in favor of Biola. Freshmen Brooke Fager and Lilly McNeill defeated their No. 2 CUI opponents 7-5 while freshman Gaby Carvajal and sophomore Ines Diaz did the same, winning their No. 3 match 7-5. It was freshman Colbyshae Emery and sophomore Mary Bracsia who fell to their No. 1 Concordia opponents, 3-6.

With the game still in reach, and frankly in favor of Biola, the real test came during the singles matches. However, it was clear steering ahead for the Golden Eagles who would go on to win every match finished. Emery lost her No. 1 heartbreaker 7-7 in the third set while Carvajal, Fager and McNeill all lost their singles matches 1-6. Brascia and Diaz left their matches unfinished.

The Eagles now sit at a 12-4 overall record as they prepare to host Hawaii Pacific University at the Biola Tennis Center on Thursday, April 15 starting at 1 p.m.

[email protected]  Originally from a small farm town in Ohio, I have put aside my corn shucking gloves to embrace a new life in the Angel City to study sports journalism. It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
