Volleyball falls to PLNU

Biola volleyball hosted Point Loma Nazarene University on Wednesday night in their first PacWest matchup of the season. The Eagles stepped onto the court with confidence, but were overpowered by the Sea Lions in the end, losing the game 1-3.

SOLID START

Game one was easily taken by the Eagles as Biola ran away with the victory, 25-16. The Sea Lions never led the game once due to Biola’s 12 power kills found in the first set. Senior setter Vanessa Garcia excelled early on, earning seven assists in the win.

Games two, three and four shifted in momentum as Point Loma began to run away with superiority. Biola put up their best fight in set two, but fell in a close 25-21 loss. Set three maintained competitiveness, but the Sea Lions stayed slightly on top of the Eagles. With the score tied at 20, senior middle blocker Bekah Roth got the Eagles within one point with a monster kill, but it was not enough to swing the set in Biola’s favor. Point Loma came back and matched the intensity to take game three, 25-23. By the end of the night, set four showed fatigue as the Eagles ran out of gas, losing the final game 25-17 and overall 1-3.

The Eagles (0-1) will travel to Irvine, Calif. on Wednesday, March 17 to take on the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles at 7 p.m.

[email protected]  Originally from a small farm town in Ohio, I have put aside my corn shucking gloves to embrace a new life in the Angel City to study sports journalism. It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
