The men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted California Lutheran University at the Biola Tennis Center on Saturday. The odds were heavily placed in Biola’s favor, as both teams defeated Cal Lutheran, 7-0.

EAGLES ENGAGED

The women began the day with perfection in the doubles matches. Freshmen Brooke Fager and Lilly McNeill demolished their opponents 6-0 in the No. 1 matchup. Freshmen Gaby Carvajal and Amelia Kitts followed suit with a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles, while sophomore Ines Diaz and junior Madison Swaney rounded out the No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 win.

Each Eagle that went on to compete in the singles matches also came out on top. Freshman Colbyshae Emery, Carvajal, Fager, McNeill, Diaz and Swaney all ended their individual matches well ahead of Cal Lutheran, granting the Eagles a sweep, 7-0.

The men had big shoes to fill after watching the women dominate the courts. Sophomores Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Rosales Varona ended the No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 victory while sophomore Andres Meneses and senior Erik Martinez finished with a 6-4 win. Freshman Isaac Cordova and sophomore Alex Sedeno took the No. 2 doubles down to the wire but were able to secure the win, 7-6. Sophomore Ian Nieh, Prokopchuk, Cordova, Sedeno, Meneses and Martinez all earned victories in their individual matches, resulting in another sweep, 7-0.

[email protected]  Originally from a small farm town in Ohio, I have put aside my corn shucking gloves to embrace a new life in the Angel City to study sports journalism. It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
