Women’s Tennis hosted Westmont College this afternoon in their third game of the season. After taking a hard loss last week to Concordia University Irvine, Biola was able to come out swinging and sweep Westmont in their second win thus far, 4-0.

UNUSUAL PLAY

The three doubles matches didn’t play out as expected. Freshmen Brooke Fager and Lilly McNeill won easily in the No. 2 doubles, 6-3. However, sophomore Mary Brascia and freshman Colbyshae Emery found themselves at a tie of four even in their first match. When the second match came around, their opponents left the game unfinished, resulting in the automatic victory for the Eagles. The No. 3 doubles had no players, so a win by default was ushered to Biola.

The singles matches were similar, as Freshman Gaby Carvajal, Emory and Fager all had unfinished matches by the end of the third rounds. The No. 6 doubles had no players, so they were given another win by default. Thankfully, McNeill and Brascia were able to play and finish their singles, both of which walked away with individual wins, 6-3, 6-1.

The Eagles (2-1) will travel to sunny San Diego, Calif. tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. to take on Point Loma Nazarene University. Live streaming of the matches can be found on the Biola Athletics page.

It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
