Men’s soccer continues losing streak

Men’s soccer hosted Concordia University Irvine on Wednesday afternoon in their second PacWest matchup of this unusual 2021 season. While only two games into their schedule, Biola still remains winless after a tough loss to the Golden Eagles today, 1-4.

SLOW START

Concordia stepped on Al Barbour Field ready to commit. Within the first 45 minutes, the Golden Eagles scored two goals, leaving Biola with unanswered points going into the half.

Junior defender Izaac Zausch found himself caught up in the heat of the frustration. Zausch earned a red card and he was ejected from the game right before the end of the first.

SECOND HALF SPARK: NOT ENOUGH

However, the Eagles exited the break with a quick spark. Junior midfielder Aidan Hill found the back of the net in the beginning part of the final half. The goal and assist by freshman forward Adam Jones was the only productive push the Eagles made all night. CUI quickly fired back and scored two more goals within eight minutes of each other to ultimately run away with the win.

Despite the loss, Biola held their ground on the defensive end, catching four saves at the net. The Eagles struggled on the offensive end, only producing one goal on 12 total shots. On the other hand, CUI secured their four goals on 15 shot attempts.

The Eagles (0-2) will remain in La Mirada, Calif. to welcome Bethesda University on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. Live streaming of the game can be found on the Athletics webpage.

It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
