Women’s basketball bounces back in blowout win

Women’s basketball has been off to a rocky start this season, however, the Eagles were able to look past their prior loss to Concordia University Irvine yesterday and bounce back for a big win, 62-45.

Sophomore guard Stephanie Lee led the team in points, totaling 17 on 7 of 12 shooting from the field. Lee also tallied five rebounds and four assists. Redshirt junior guard Danita Estorga and sophomore forward Jordan Rabe both racked up 11 points each, with Estorga collecting nine rebounds.

CALM, COOL AND COLLECTED

Concordia began the first quarter shooting a disappointing 0-5 from the 3-point line, allowing the Eagles to run away with an early lead on 7-11 shooting. While there were only two lead changes throughout the game, the Eagles were able to maintain composure and continue to make subtle advances past the Golden Eagles.

Biola found themselves entering the half with a comfortable lead, 37-20. While the Eagles shot weak from behind the arc, they began to take flight with success inside of the paint where they totaled 36 points as opposed to Concordia’s 18 points in the paint. CUI lost any chance of a potential comeback from their poor shooting from the field, averaging 33%.

The Eagles (2-5) will head to Azusa, Calif. on Friday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. to take on rivals Azusa Pacific University in their third matchup of the season. Live streaming of the game can be found on Biola Athletics webpage.

[email protected]  Originally from a small farm town in Ohio, I have put aside my corn shucking gloves to embrace a new life in the Angel City to study sports journalism. It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
