The Biola swim and dive team jumped into the 2021 season with a splash. Both the men and women’s teams had their first meet of the year on Jan. 23 where the women came out on top over California Baptist University, 169-130, but the men fell short, 109-182.
Just a week later, the women’s team secured another victory over the Simpson University Red Hawks and Westmont Warriors in this afternoon’s tri-meet 32 event. The final score vs. the Red Hawks was 230-9 and vs. the Warriors was 213-36. The men won their first meet this season vs. the Red Hawks 166-73.
WOMEN DOMINATE THE WATER
The Eagles won 15 out of 17 events in the 32-event afternoon in Santa Barbara. The women showed up and showed out vs. the Red Hawks and the Warriors. The women dominated in their distance events. Starting off the afternoon with 1,650 yard freestyle sophomore Kayla Vos had a finishing time of 18:09.96 gaining 9 points. In the women’s 500-yard freestyle sophomore Kellyn Hayes finished at 5:22.33 gaining 9 points as well. The women’s 400 IM was won by Katelyn Harper with a finishing time of 4:44.57.
MEN MAKING MOVES
Sophomore Gabe Weber found himself at the top of the charts for the men’s 1,650-freestyle with a time of 17:01.13, ultimately winning the race for Biola. Freshman Michael Maurer won the 500-freestyle for the Eagles with ease, coming in 11 seconds before anyone else, 4:53.60. Sophomore Tanner Smith earned the title of PCSC Swimmer of the Week from his efforts in the backstroke and freestyle where he won both, :53.58, :47.42.
The Eagles women (3-0) and men (1-1) will return home to Lansing Pool against Fresno Pacifc Sunbirds Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m.
