Women’s volleyball headed north to take on Dominican University of California, marking the second half of the PacWest season. The Eagles won in four sets and recorded an excellent hitting percentage, hitting over 0.300.

The Eagles started strong in the first set with an ace from freshman middle blocker Raegan Tjepkema, followed by several attack errors to put Biola up 6-1. The Eagles’ strong blocking and defensive play held DUC to just eight points. Senior outside hitter Becca Branch added another ace and freshman setter Abby Brewster recorded a kill to end the set 25-8.

Dominican and Biola played evenly at the start of the second with kills from Brewster and Tjepkema, making the score 8-12 in favor of DUC. The Eagles fell behind with several errors at the net. Senior outside hitter Sabrina Winslow and junior middle blocker Bekah Roth added a couple kills, but the Eagles fell 26-24 in the end.

Biola finished off the next two sets in similar fashion winning the first 25-12, and the second 25-14. Winslow finished the match with 13 kills and Tjepkema followed closely with 12. Freshman middle blocker Abigail Copeland led both teams in blocks with six. Biola finished the match with eight aces and a hitting percentage of 0.304 compared to DUC’s -0.020.

The Eagles (12-9 overall, 9-4 PacWest) will be back out on the court Friday, Nov. 1 at Concordia University Irvine at 10 a.m.

My name is Ashley Grams and I grew up in a small town north of Seattle –– it is so far north that many people resort to saying we live in Canada. Every weekend I watched sports with my dad, especially the Seattle Seahawks. Thursday, Sunday or Monday night, it didn't matter when they were on, my dad and I were glued to the TV. My love of sports started at a young age and translated into my teen years as I found myself following in the footsteps of Erin Andrews and other broadcasters. Sports journalism became my dream and I moved to Biola University, near Los Angeles, to pursue it. As a sophomore broadcast journalism major and Spanish minor, I am excited to continue writing for the Chimes as a sports staff writer. I enjoy the challenge of communicating effectively with a joyful heart, not to mention watching tons of games on campus! Outside of the Chimes you might find me playing intramural sports, watching “Friends” or eating gluten-free food.
