Volleyball shut out Fresno Pacific University

Women’s volleyball traveled to Fresno, California on Wednesday night for a quick win against Fresno Pacific University. The Eagles showed dominance in all three matches, shutting out the Sunbirds 3-0 in just over an hour.

The first match started out neck and neck, but the Eagles began to pull away when the score hit 15-11. FPU committed a service error which led to two kills from freshman middle blocker Raegan Tjepkema, providing the attack needed to push ahead on the scoreboard. Biola won the first match 25-18.

The Eagles started out strong in the second set, leading the Sunbirds 7-1 with kills from numerous players, including Tjepkema and senior outside hitter Sabrina Winslow. Winslow later finished with the most kills on the court between both teams at 10. Biola finished the set quickly, winning 25-10.

EAGLES FINISH STRONG

The last set was the closest as FPU tried to fight back, but the Eagles came up with some big blocks to halt their attack. Freshman middle blocker Abigail Copeland led her team with three block assists. Biola won the set with ease, 25-19.

The Eagles (6-5) will be back out on the court Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. for their first home match at Chase Gymnasium against Concordia Irvine University

My name is Ashley Grams and I grew up in a small town north of Seattle –– it is so far north that many people resort to saying we live in Canada. Every weekend I watched sports with my dad, especially the Seattle Seahawks. Thursday, Sunday or Monday night, it didn't matter when they were on, my dad and I were glued to the TV. My love of sports started at a young age and translated into my teen years as I found myself following in the footsteps of Erin Andrews and other broadcasters. Sports journalism became my dream and I moved to Biola University, near Los Angeles, to pursue it. As a sophomore broadcast journalism major and Spanish minor, I am excited to continue writing for the Chimes as a sports staff writer. I enjoy the challenge of communicating effectively with a joyful heart, not to mention watching tons of games on campus! Outside of the Chimes you might find me playing intramural sports, watching “Friends” or eating gluten-free food.
