Rarely does the Chimes recognize someone twice with the Athlete of the Week Award, let alone twice within four weeks. But recently, there has been cause to make an exception and it comes in the form of a freshman phenom. Spearheading women’s golf’s fight for its first national championship in team history, Sami Penor found herself tied for eighth overall after day one. Nevertheless, Penor clawed her way to the very top of the leaderboard by shooting a 75 and 76 in the second and third round respectively, sealing her National Christian College Athletic Association individual title victory. Though the team maintained a relatively comfortable lead heading into the final two rounds of play, Penor buckled down with a steadiness that is rarely found with players of her youth and inexperience and of course, helped her team earn its first national title in Biola women’s golf history.
