Crêpes de Paris: Say oui to Brea’s latest faux-French café

Comfy up in an inviting French inspired café with hot coffee and delicious desserts. Crêpes de Paris may be far from an actual Paris experience – the owners are not from France, the workers do not speak the romantic language and none of the food is imported from the distant country. However, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is absolutely unbeatable.

Crêpes de Paris began when, years ago, a married couple vacationed in France and were so inspired by the sights that they decided to bring some of it back here, to the States. The owners started their first shop in Irvine and have been growing the business ever since.

As soon as I approached the picturesque café, I was overwhelmed by its charm and charisma. The outside tables and chairs sit under a classic striped awning, facing the old-fashioned ambiance of beautiful Birch Street lit up with the faces of happy shoppers embracing the holidays. Birch Street emotes the old-town feel of friendly faces, attractive street lights, and small shops. The inside is graced with black and white checkered tile, laced with dazzling red accents. Pictures of the Eiffel Tower and other French scenes adorn the walls and bathroom. Needless to say, it is a stereotypical American portrayal of the French culture, but who says that has to be bad? Sure, the actual City of Lights is lush in the ways of glamour and prestige, but the atmosphere of this place proves it can hold its own in allure.

The food is simply the icing on the cake for this stunning adventure; however, it tends to be on the pricey end. The most popular sweet crêpe, with Nutella, strawberries and bananas, is $8.95. A savory crêpe is more of a substantial choice, with a variation of meats and cheeses, at $9.95. Cold and hot sandwiches are also available, along with omelettes, breakfast crêpes, soups, salads, and beverages. If you would like to have the quaint experience without the steep fee, get a coffee and enjoy it in the veranda-like seating outside. It is the perfect spot for a romantic evening or enjoyable conversation over a luscious treat.

The beautiful faux-Paris café is found at 275 Birch St. in Brea, near The Melting Pot. Waiting for you there is a supreme dining encounter that will not disappoint. It is “très magnifique,” as the French might say. If you are looking for a spot rich in magic to spend the oncoming holidays, the time could not be better for a visit to Crêpes de Paris.
