This week’s Associated Students senate meeting was the second open proposal day of the semester.

Proposals

Amanda Clarke, AS social events coordinator, made the first proposal of the day asking for an In-N-Out truck at the annual Splash! event. The event usually features Chipotle burritos, but an In-N-Out truck will give the SOS event a fresh appeal, Clarke said. The proposed amount of $500 will pay the down payment on the truck.

Next, the senate heard from Andrew Nelson, junior ICS major and Horton resident advisor, who requested funding for the annual Mosaic Masquerade hosted by Horton. An amount of $4,000 would cover the cost of food, decorations and advertising. The event will be held on May 10 and will be open to the entire Biola community.

Sophomore film major Jordan McKinney and junior film major Cameron West proposed for the premiere of their film, “Pong: Legend of the Ping.” The requested $270 would cover the cost of food and advertising. The premiere will be held in Sutherland Auditorium on May 1.

Next, sophomore kinesiology major Cam Campbell and junior international business major Seth Lemings asked for funding towards the annual “Heat of the Night” event hosted by Hart. The requested amount of $2,700 will cover the cost of room decorations and food.

The senate heard from senior film major Joseph Garrett and junior film major Sam Halleen for the partial funding of advertisements for their film, “Paradise Lodge.” The film students requested $820 to pay for advertising materials and a stand-up comedy fundraising event. The film will premiere in the fall semester.

Lastly, the senate heard a proposal from Marmar Zakher, freshman anthropology major, for a fundraising sale of Middle Eastern desserts. The proceeds will be donated to “Voice of the Refugees” and other events at Biola to promote education about the Middle East.

Voting

The senate began voting with the social events restructure proposal that Amanda Clarke proposed at the last AS senate meeting. The original proposal called for the elimination of the social events volunteer position and a new coordinator assistant position. The senate unanimously voted to pass an amended version of the proposal, which only eliminates the volunteer position and does not add an assistant position.

Next, the senate passed the proposal of Richie Gowen, vice president of marketing and communications, to create a communications coordinator position. This new position will increase the department payroll by $1,700.

In a same-day vote, the senate passed the proposal made by Amanda Clarke for a $500 deposit on an In-N-Out truck for next year’s Splash! event.
