Some call it the most wonderful time of the year and play Christmas music nonstop. Others get so outraged by the music, they try to slip arsenic into Santa’s milk or go hunting for reindeer. Regardless of what kind of elf you are — festive or fiery — I want to point out some Christmas albums that will satiate the Grinch in all of us.

Vince Guaraldi Trio, “A Charlie Brown Christmas 2012 [Remastered & Expanded Edition]”

If you are studying for finals, trying to take a nap or feeling the nostalgia of the season, the Vince Guaraldi Trio offers a jazzy collection to lighten the mood. The album is mostly instrumental, which is perfect for background music or simply easy listening. If you only listen to one song from the album, make it “Christmas Time is Here — Instrumental.”

Harry Connick Jr., “What a Night! A Christmas Album” (2008)

A tough decision between this album and Connick’s “When My Heart Finds Christmas” (1993), the deciding factor was because “Little Drummer Boy” was nowhere to be found on “What a Night!” But, I digress. This holiday album is one of the best I have heard. This fun compilation includes renditions of classic songs, each with the crooning flair of Connick and the smoothness of a big band. Be sure not to miss “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and the instrumental version of “We Three Kings.”

Lady Antebellum, “On This Winter’s Night” (2012)

I’ll be the first to admit I like country a little too much, but this Christmas album is too good to be kept off this list. It is because they focus more on harmony than twang that this album works so well. Don’t miss “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Straight No Chaser, “Holiday Spirits” (2008)

Straight No Chaser has put out several excellent Christmas albums in recent years, but this is still my favorite. They have wonderful sacred and secular offerings. Their rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas [Live]” can make the staunchest Scrooge giggle.

Various Artists, “Holidays Rule” (2012)

Perhaps you would listen to Christmas music if it was performed by your favorite artist. Well, this album is for you. Artists ranging from The Civil Wars to The Head and the Heart take on the holiday task at hand. Because there are a variety of artists on this album, there are different styles that may suit your tastes the best. Be sure to listen to “Sleigh Ride” by fun. for an experience that suits their musical stylings and makes for an enjoyable tune.
