As autumn comes and some of the leaves change colors and crunch under walking feet, students can enjoy the cool, crisp air outside. For some, it’s too chilly outside, especially in the morning. But for others, it reminds us of home. Parks serve as great places to enjoy this season.

With a quick Google Maps search, I found over 10 parks within three miles of campus. I invite you to put on your boots, tie a scarf around your neck and get out to enjoy the beauty of these days.

Here are three of students’ most favored parks:

• La Mirada Regional Park is located just across the street from the Biola soccer field, behind Splash! With a great disc golf course, a big pond and ball fields, there are many things to enjoy there. With sidewalks all throughout the park, it’s a great spot for a walk or a run.
• La Mirada Creek Park, set back in the neighborhood off of Imperial Highway, can be accessed through the tunnel under the La Mirada Boulevard entrance to Biola. While the portion of the park near La Mirada Blvd. can be a bit scary, the portion near Santa Gertrudes Avenue is absolutely beautiful and always brimming with people from the nearby community.
• Neff Park, just off of the southwest part of Biola Ave., is a park with history and character. Once the estate of La Mirada’s founder, Andrew McNally, this park was a gift to the city by his daughter’s request. It is by far the most secluded of the three listed here and serves as a great place for a picnic or quiet study spot.
