Annie’s (Kristen Wiig) best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) is getting married. Crowned the maid of honor, Annie is thrust into an unfamiliar world of planning a wedding with an interesting group of bridesmaids, all while sifting through her own messed-up love life. When things go wrong, Annie and Lillian’s friendship is put to the test and they find out how far they are willing to go for the people they love.

Mixed with humor, love and friendship, “Bridesmaids” has been a huge success in its opening week at the box office, grossing $26.2 million and garnering an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Movie made by women for women

“Bridesmaids” is everything a girl could want in a comedy. The film centers around two best friends and their struggles, has a romantic side to it, colorful characters, and is filled with humor that actually relates with girls. It accomplishes this while still having scenes that will both make you cry and fall out of your chair from laughing so hard.

Wiig co-wrote this film and her comedic timing was pristine. The characters are believable, properly developed, and although the movie is hilarious throughout, there are significant themes at its core. While it could be compared to a female version of “The Hangover,” it is much better because there is a heart to the storyline.

Good storyline despite crude humor

However, for those of you who may not be into the whole raunchy-comedy thing then this probably isn’t the movie for you. For example, there’s plenty of contract-breaking activities in this film, including flat out gag moments and gratuitous humor throughout–simply put, it’s rated “R” for a reason.

“Bridesmaids” wins a solid “A” and 4.5 out of 5 stars from me. It had a purpose, great actresses, an amazing script, a fantastic story, and best of all, it gives girls the opportunity to realize just why they love their friends so much. You will want to laugh, cry, and fall in love without the sappiness that haunts rom-coms. If you enjoy movies like “The Hangover” then you will love “Bridesmaids” and may want to see it again and again.
