After a day full of sleep-deprived learning, studying, and maybe a little procrastinating, you may find yourself thinking, “I don’t have time for a nap, but how can I recharge?” Red Bull, Starbucks and the like can keep you running on artificial energy, giving you a temporary high. However, these energy bursts are usually followed by a major crash.

Azucar Café Bakery and Juice Bar may be the perfect solution to refueling your biological engines. This café is a family-owned business, and sells all-natural fruit smoothies with the vitamins you need to stay healthy and awake.

“Our concept is a Latin café founded on quality and freshness. We bake pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) fresh daily and specialize in making fresh 100 percent fruit juices,” said Eddie Norzagaray, co-owner of Azucar.

The café just opened this June and is already a great up-and-coming restaurant. For Biolans, it could not be easier to find. Located at 12826 La Mirada Blvd, Azucar is just a minute away, in the Stator Bros. shopping center.

Azucar freshly squeezes fruits for their delectable juice, keeping the all-natural healthy goodness intact, but still making sure their beverages taste great. In fact, their fruit is so fresh that you may see employees cutting up fruit for your smoothie, fruit cup or fruit salad.

“We’re known for our fruit!” said Lettie Cortez, co-owner of Azucar.

For those that do have a sweet tooth however, don’t fret— Azucar also makes shaved iced.

Many college students do not have much cash to spare, but rest assured. Azucar’s starts their pastries at 25 cents each. None of them are sold for more than two dollars. They are also made fresh at the restaurant, and are sure to leave you wanting more.

Another popular item is the breakfast torta. That is composed of scrambled eggs on fresh baked bread, topped with bacon or ham, avocado, tomato, and onion. Better yet, it is only $3.50. But if you are looking for a sweeter breakfast, they also have pancakes, French toast, and oatmeal. Better still, every breakfast comes with their famous fresh fruit. It’s a great way to jump-start your day.

Many college students need their coffee. The kind folks at Azucar know this too, and offer 12 oz. mugs of coffee for only $1.95 including free refills.

Still worried about money? Azucar gives a 10 percent discount for students who show Biola ID. They also give punch cards, so regulars can have their sixth purchase free! Get there by foot, bike, or car. No matter what form of transportation you use, you will be sure to enjoy the fun-loving and colorful atmosphere Azucar has to offer.
