Gambling with the future
My roommate Micah is what I like to call a multitasker. In my world, that means he’s capable of playing not just one, but two videogames at the same time. In this case, one of them is an outer space role-playing game, while the other is online poker.

A Mary Christmas
*“There has fallen on earth for a token, a god too great for the sky.” – G.K. Chesterton*
There once were two sisters, you’ve most likely heard of them. The name of the first was Martha, and she owned a house. The second, younger sister’s name was Mary. In an amazing moment, the Christ came to th ...

Stop thinking about tomorrow and wake up today
I tie my scarf tighter and shiver in the frigid air conditioning at Starbucks. Maybe a sip of steaming coffee will warm me. I lift the cardboard cup the chessboard table in front of my MacBook. After a swallow of hot liquid, I return my focus to the book in my hands.

Youtube Clip of the Week: King Burger

YouTube Pick of the Week:
An obnoxious "King Burger" waitress doesn't appreciate customers who have complicated orders. Her attitude changes when an attractive guy comes in.
Best part: The rap at the end.

Finding an outlet for the inner turmoil
Four years ago when I was a freshman, I can remember opening my eyes in the morning and not knowing why I even bothered waking up. My grandfather had recently passed away and my parents had just gotten divorced; the world I once knew had been turned completely upside down. I would go to chapel by myself and sit alone not caring to talk to anyone. That was how I spent my first couple of years at Biola.

Life in America: Black Friday and my new Wii pajamas
Ever since the day Squanto gave the first Pilgrims such a great deal on corn, Black Friday has become a part of American history. Each year, thousands of men and women flock to the stores the day after Thanksgiving to take part in this wonderful tradition passed down from generation to generation. It is for this very reason that I woke up at 4:00 a.m. last Friday to stand in line at my nearest Target.

Four fires in an inverted world
The ash falls gently like snowflakes, covering the ground at my feet with a blanket of grey. This blanket consists of a mother’s rocking chair, an accountant’s business, a boy’s favorite backyard tree, the newlyweds’ first home, a traveler’s hotel room, and the portraits on the mantel in a grandma’s house.

Becoming a good steward
If we knew that one day we would give account for what we did with our resources, would that change the way we use them? Would that make us rethink how we spend our money?

Avoiding stress and worry for the holidays
On Nov. 27, the worrying will begin. In less than a few hours, Great Aunt Edna will burst into the house carrying a platter loaded with ham. Ma will put the finishing touches on the roasted turkey filled with stuffing, and Uncle Herbert will start pouring cups of homemade lemonade and cranberry juice for everyone. The kitchen will be more crowded than it has ever been, and Lady Festivity will reign supreme for the day.

Implications of Israel and possible peace
On Feb. 10, a new prime minister and Knesset (the ruling parliament) will be elected in Israel. This election may be more determinative for peace in the region than the U.S. presidential election. With projected instability in the region, Israeli news source Haaretz declared that President Obama would be a wartime president.

Dear Prudence: Approaching the opposite sex
I could easily take the next couple hundred words to talk about how girls want to be pursued, the importance of chivalry, how guys should open doors for girls, or how they should be the ones to ask a girl out on a date – but I won't.

What happened to Veteran’s Day?
Nov. 11 passed unnoticed. No announcements were made, no special prayer chapel held. Biola’s student body largely forgot Veteran’s Day. This didn’t sit well with the Biola College Republicans. Call us sentimental, but we savor the chance to spend a day remembering the 25 million American veterans; they have sacrificed the comforts and safety of home to preserve the freedoms upon which this institution relies.
