What happened to Veteran’s Day?

Nov. 11 passed unnoticed. No announcements were made, no special prayer chapel held. Biola’s student body largely forgot Veteran’s Day. This didn’t sit well with the Biola College Republicans. Call us sentimental, but we savor the chance to spend a day remembering the 25 million American veterans; they have sacrificed the comforts and safety of home to preserve the freedoms upon which this institution relies.

Eugenics, systematic genocide and President-elect Barack Obama

We live in an exciting time. Americans are making world history. For the first time, we have a black eugenics-endorsing president-elect in America. Ironic.

Unity through diversity

Regardless of your political views and who you supported, Barack Obama was elected to be our next president. Whether we voted for him or not, as Christians we are called to respect him as our president. Racism has always existed on our campus but through this election, it has become more prevalent.

Using family values to stabilize the world

Three days ago, I became a proud employee of Best Buy. After filling out a good 16 tons of paperwork and jotting my signature no less than 84 times, I was finally informed that I should arrive at 2 p.m. for “staff orientation.” Upon arriving, the operations manager stood up in front of us, his newly employed kids, each one complete in our starch white attire and khaki pants.

The reasons behind “No”-bama

Now that the presidential election is over, it is time for predictions of the future. Well, that’s not entirely true. I have had these thoughts since long before the election began — as much as I supported John McCain, I predicted Barack Obama would win. (Yes, people can attest to my claim.) Here is what I believe will happen in the next four to eight years during Obama’s presidency.

Celebrating our democracy and trusting in God

The election of Barack Obama to be the first black president of the United States is as historic as our country’s early practice of slavery. Even though, as Colin Powell reminded us after the results were announced, Obama has not put himself forward as an African American, but instead, as an American who happens to be African. Your children will read about this election in their history books.

Facing off: Republican farewell

First, congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama. This campaign has been long and arduous and he has competed with grace and honor. America has clearly spoken and made their choice.

Violence and the real world

While some people have been getting all hot and bothered over some election I keep hearing about, the rest of us have our minds set on higher priorities, such as videogames. Winter is fast approaching, and with it comes the onslaught of games we have all been waiting for. The sequels to Gears of War, Fable, Fallout, and Call of Duty are all poised for their attack upon our wallets.

Why politicks suck: A theological apologetic for government

Every Christian in America should ask two questions and then vote. What species of government did our Founding Fathers birth? And what does scripture say about government?

Friends don´t let friends watch college football

I have a roommate named Micah. I like to write about him because I’m pretty sure he doesn’t like to read about himself. There are specific reasons I live with the guy. For one, he’s dependable. I can always count on finding him unconscious on the couch in the morning or playing online chess while blasting Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” and singing along.

Republican reality: What if the Right is wrong?

Religion, morality, and politics are inherently intermingled and therefore should not be separated. However, in order for Christians to be a witness to the secular world, changes must occur in our political ideology and group behaviors. It’s time for the Christian Right to end its exclusive ties with the Republican Party.
