At the AS Senate’s weekly Tuesday meetings, senators give audience to parties requesting money, vote on pending proposals and discuss finances. Here is an outlined summary of the most recent senate meeting, which was held October 16.

NEW PROPOSALS (have yet to be voted on)

NONE THIS WEEK

VOTING (on proposals from the previous week)

  • AfterDark Event—$500, PASSED
  • Chapel Board trying to bring in Phil Wickham for chapel—$3,500, PASSED
  • New centennial banners that would present more diversity on Biola’s campus—$500, NOT PASSED

SPIRIT BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Pumpkin contest Oct 22-26. Each dorm can decorate a pumpkin to be judged at Punk ‘n’ Pie talent show. Dorm senators will be responsible for retrieving the pumpkins.
  • Midnight Madness—Nov. 11
  • Next dorm competition: “Man Hunt.” Nov. 7 is the tentative date.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Continued talk about changing the responsibilities and job title of the AS Vice President of Services.
    Making it more marketing focused.
    It is a common sentiment in AS that the VP of Services is underutilized.
    
  • The new AS website is nearly complete—http://as.biola.edu
    The site will list pending proposals and allow viewers to comment on them.
    “We want to roll out a whole campaign to promote it,” AS President Jared Gibo, said.
    
  • “Biola Fest” concert hosted by Centennial Celebrations—Nov. 3
    Attendees encouraged to bring new shoes to donate.
    
  • Discussion about a suggestion the senate will propose to the University Chapel Board on behalf of the student body regarding the proposed change in chapel policy.
