Laura Ingraham, a renowned author, columnist and television commentator who hosts her own syndicated radio program, is coming to speak at Biola this Tuesday night.

Professor Craig Hazen said the number one reason to come to the event would be “because it is interesting and entertaining” and “she is one of the smartest women in Washington.” He noted that Ingraham “has great insight on government and political issues.”

According to Ingraham’s Web site, she has experience as a White House speechwriter for the Reagan administration and also held posts at the U.S. department of transportation and department of education. She received a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and eventually earned a law degree.

Her first book, titled Hillary Trap, was published in June 2000, and her most recent book, which she is promoting at the event, is titled In Power to the People. According to her site, In Power to the People stresses the importance of family, education, American patriotism and the significance of getting involved with the culture.

Abigail Schilling of the Biola apologetics department said the event is a collaboration between apologetics and the Torrey Honors Institute.

Schilling said the event is a perfect opportunity “to see someone without any religion who has the same values and morality” as many Christians.

One of Ingraham’s platforms is parenting, and she encourages parents to act as a “parent filter” and to start paying more attention to what their child is viewing on the Internet. On her site, she urges Americans to “start a blog on what is happening at your local PTA or learn about threats that face America.”

The event will be held at Sutherland Auditorium from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and the entrance fee is $20.
