On Sep. 27, Biola tennis duo, junior business administration major Alejandro Flores Monteverde and graduate student Angel Guerrero Melgar, dominated at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Regional Men’s Open Doubles Championship. They earned a doubles victory with a final 7-6 score and both of them advanced to the semifinals in the singles brackets. All of their hard work shines through at tournaments like this, every hour of training shows up on the court.
Guerrero Melgar excelled in both the singles and doubles competitions, securing the singles title with a final score of 6-4, 6-4. He has a singles World Tennis Number (WTN) rating of 13.79 and a doubles rating of 15.68.
Despite falling 3-6, 1-6 in the singles semifinals, Flores Monteverde contributed significantly to the doubles success. He has a singles WTN rating of 13.79 and a doubles rating of 15.68.

When getting their WTN rating, it isn’t just about a single match or good weekend but consistently demonstrating their strength and ability to show up when competition is tough. All collegiate tennis players have to earn their rating by collecting wins and proving themselves in tournaments, these two haven’t just added to their record but built a reputation. Every point, every upset, every push at the end of a match and when out on the court, this doubles team has proved they belong out there with the best.
Biola tennis history has had many stand-out moments through many seasons. For example, they are currently two-time Fall ITA Regional Single Champions. Recent wins such as Flores Monteverde and Jules Zanarelli’s upset of Point Loma’s nationally ranked No. 23 and doubles victories in the PacWest Championship show the program’s growth. Flores Monteverde and Guerrero Melgar’s ITA Regional title marks one of Biola’s strongest combined performances.
