On Wednesday, April 16, Biola’s Conservatory of Music hosted Music at Noon: Bluegrass Ensemble. The event featured a mid-day concert at the Fireplace Pavilion with music students singing bluegrass-style songs alongside a full string-band.
Junior Worship Arts student, Lindsey Comer, was one of the few vocalists in the concert.
“I’m excited to share what we’ve been working on all semester… Bluegrass is not as popular with our age demographic so it’s sweet to share this genre with people who might not know it as well,” Comer said.
Learning more about bluegrass music and practicing all semester, the vocalists have grown to love a variety of bluegrass artists.
Ashley Portillo, a sophomore Worship Arts student, stood next to Lindsey as another vocalist in the ensemble.
“Molly Tuttle and Sara Watkins are some of the artists I’ve come across since being in this ensemble and they are incredible,” Portillo said.
The crowd clapped along to the country-blues tunes as the vocalists sang proudly side-by-side and the banjo could be heard throughout the outdoor venue.
