A group exhibition curated by seniors in Biola University’s B.S. art program opened yesterday, April 14, and runs through April 18 in the Green Art Gallery and Bardwell Project Space. The show features student work in a wide range of mediums, including pottery, painting, thread, risograph, photography, beadwork and more.
When asked about the significance of the exhibition and the process leading up to it, senior Vanessa LeMoine said, “I have used art as a way to express myself [when] I can’t express my words the way I’d like to. This hair series is a process of me learning to love my hair, the relationship of hair on my head and body. It was a really healing process, and I was scared of showing this work because it’s very vulnerable and is an extension of myself. But it’s been beautiful to see how art connects and works together.”
Charisma Singgih, who used risograph printing to reflect on her cross-cultural identity, shared, “[These are] a timeline of my work I produced at Biola. I didn’t realize at the time that I was exploring my cultural identity—I just made them. And I found a love of risograph printing.”
Artists featured in the exhibition include: Charisma Singgih, Gracie Pera, Vanessa LeMoine, Yu Mee Chu, Bina Kidane, Iris Kim, Sena Kim, Megan Yi, Jonathan White
