Every year, when the fall months roll in, Biola holds Torrey Conference, inviting some of the most talented worship leaders throughout the country to lead students together in music. This year, Washington state-based One Voice Worship led the student body in passionate moments of praise, using electric guitars and stunning harmonies to glorify God. The band played four of the five main sessions, accompanying sermons surrounding the idea of being “wholehearted” in obedience and character. One Voice’s vocals alongside these messages created a sacred space to bow down in worship, listen to the truth-filled lyrics and appreciate the rest from classes during the week.
PRAISING IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND BEYOND
Priscilla Trejo, One Voice Worship’s marketing director and vocal lead, is one of seven members of the group who met in Kirkland, Washington, and continued to spread their worship throughout the Pacific Northwest. Bringing their gifts to the Biola community, Trejo’s favorite moment throughout the band’s conference worship sessions was singing the lyrics of “I Speak Jesus,” melodically sharing the truth of Jesus’ power.
“There is so much power in the name of Jesus and it’s always a good reminder of the authority and power his name alone carries,” Trejo said. “Each line is so powerful from speaking Jesus to every dark addiction, over fear and anxiety and over our families; I believe there was hope and freedom being declared over everyone.”
Now a Tribl Records signed band, the worship group is beginning to bring their collective outside of Washington, sharing God’s love with everyone, from Biola students to prison inmates.
“Leading worship at a university felt no different than worshiping at my church or in a prison, which is what we did earlier last month at San Quentin Prison,” Trejo said. “We are all hungry for the presence of God because we realize there is no life outside of him and him alone.”
