Men’s basketball chokes in overtime

The Eagles fall to Cal State San Marcos in their season opener, 75-86.

Men’s basketball traveled to California State University, San Marcos to get the 2019-20 season underway. The Eagles went into halftime with a decent lead, 41-32, but lost control when the Cougars fought their way back into the game, sending the teams into overtime. BU choked during the extra minutes and allowed CSUSM to go on a 13-2 run, winning the game 86-75.

The team shot an impressive 71% from the three-point line during the first half, but drastically dropped their average to 20% in the second. While struggling late on the offensive end, the Eagles defense was able to hold off the San Marcos sharp shooters to just 2-12 from outside the arc. The game was tied at 73 when overtime play started and CSUSM took off to secure the win with an 11-point victory over Biola.

PROMISING OFFENSE

Senior guard Marquise Mosley led the Eagles in their offense alongside junior guard Michael Bagatourian who combined for 40 points. Mosley ended the night with 22 points and four assists while Bagatoruian finished with 18 points, six rebounds and two assists. University of California, Irvine transfer, sophomore forward Solomon Ruddell, came into his first game as an Eagle with 15 points shooting 5-7 from field-goal range.

The Eagles (0-1) will continue play at California State University, Los Angeles on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
