Athlete of the Week: Track and field’s Paige LaBare

Junior Paige LaBare excelled in the Eagles’ most recent tournament, the Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa Pacific University. The sprinter crossed the 100-meter finish line with a record-breaking personal best time of :12.14. Her astounding new time was :00.01 better than her previous 100-meter record. LaBare finished in 45th place overall in the three-day tournament. LaBare also placed 72nd overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of :25.24.

LaBare broke her school record against prestigious track and field schools like Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Long Beach and APU.

LaBare finished in first place against Westmont College on April 13, finishing the 100-meter with a quick time of :12.33. She continued her dominance as she entered the 4×100-meter race in first with a time of :48.56.

LaBare’s spectacular success on the track has earned her team many points, placing them higher on the leaderboard, and for that, she has earned the title of Chimes Athlete of the Week.

It is true what they say about culture shock and LA traffic. I am used to being late to work because of getting stuck behind a John Deere tractor, but now it is because of gridlock on the I5. However, I have quickly adjusted to the city life and haven’t looked back since. I moved from the midwest out to Los Angeles over two years ago. Since then my life has changed in big ways. I have learned the importance of pursuing my dreams in order to make them a reality. Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the time I was able to stand up on my own, there was always a ball in my hand. Basketball quickly became my MO. I was involved in multiple athletic organizations, traveling on AAU teams and playing my way through my middle and high school league. My passion for the sport is what inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism. Being at a place like Biola that has an abundance of opportunities has allowed me to expand from my small-town roots, and that is something I am truly thankful for.
