Women’s tennis loses in away match

Neither singles nor doubles could pull away from FPU.

Biola women’s tennis lost Monday afternoon on the road against Fresno Pacific University. None of the Eagles’ doubles or singles players were able to fight off FPU, resulting in a 4-0 sweep.

The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Madison Swaney and junior Lauren Lee became the first to go in a 6-0 loss. The No. 2 and No. 3 teams followed suit but at a closer score of 6-4 each.

The Eagles’ singles players also struggled. Biola’s No. 2 player, junior Tinisee Kandakai, lost first, 6-2, 6-1. Lee lost for the second time of the day, this time in the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Allison Torres gave the last point to FPU, losing 6-3, 6-2. The other singles matches, including No. 1 player freshman Ines Diaz with a close first set of 7-6, went unfinished in the end.

The Eagles (8-9) will be back on the court at Westmont College Thursday at 12 p.m.

My name is Ashley Grams and I grew up in a small town north of Seattle –– it is so far north that many people resort to saying we live in Canada. Every weekend I watched sports with my dad, especially the Seattle Seahawks. Thursday, Sunday or Monday night, it didn't matter when they were on, my dad and I were glued to the TV. My love of sports started at a young age and translated into my teen years as I found myself following in the footsteps of Erin Andrews and other broadcasters. Sports journalism became my dream and I moved to Biola University, near Los Angeles, to pursue it. As a sophomore broadcast journalism major and Spanish minor, I am excited to continue writing for the Chimes as a sports staff writer. I enjoy the challenge of communicating effectively with a joyful heart, not to mention watching tons of games on campus! Outside of the Chimes you might find me playing intramural sports, watching “Friends” or eating gluten-free food.
