Grand Theft — Tropicana Apartments

Reported Feb. 15, 9:49 a.m., occurred between 1:15 a.m. and 1:19 a.m.

A student reported their backpack stolen out of their unlocked vehicle. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department came to take a report, and during the course of the investigation Campus Safety found other vehicles, including those listed below, that had been broken into. Campus Safety also believes the crimes were committed by the same entity. The investigation remains active.

Attempted Vehicle Burglary — Off-Campus

Reported Feb. 15, 12:13 p.m., occurred between 1:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

While investigating the initial incident, officers discovered a student-owned vehicle showed signs of attempted burglary, though nothing appeared stolen. Campus Safety is continuing the investigation with the LASD.

Burglary – Vehicle — De Alacala Drive

Reported Feb. 15, 12:13 p.m., occurred between Feb. 14, 12:30 p.m. and Feb. 15, 9:15 a.m.

While investigating the initial incident, officers discovered a student-owned vehicle that had been burglarized. Campus Safety is continuing the investigation with the LASD.

Attempted Burglary — La Mirada Apartments

Reported Feb. 15, 4:30 p.m., occurred between 1:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

While investigating the initial incident, officers discovered the apartment garage showed signs of attempted burglary, though nothing appeared stolen. Campus Safety is continuing the investigation with the LASD.

Trespassing — Rosecrans Apartments

Reported Feb. 16, 5:25 p.m.

A resident reported a suspicious individual sitting in a parking space near the apartment. Officers made contact with the individual, determined they were not a student and asked them to leave. The individual left without further incident.

Trespassing — Gatehouse #1

Reported Feb. 18, 12:32 a.m.

The gatehouse attendant reported a vehicle that drove by smelling of marijuana. Officers made contact with the driver and determined they were a delivery person attempting to bring food to a student. The driver was asked to leave. The report does not note whether the driver successfully brought the food to the student.

Christian Leonard is a junior journalism major whose affinity for chickens is really getting out of hand. He can often be found singing in the office, wrapped around a book, or arguing for the classification of cereal as a soup. [email protected] I came to Biola a nervous freshman, not really sure what I wanted to do during my time at university. Years of prayer and waiting seemed fruitless, until an academic counselor recommended I contact the Chimes, since I had shown a modest interest in journalism. I figured it was worth a shot, so I got in touch with the news editors. After a brief chat, I left, figuring I would write for them the following semester. I was assigned my first story a few days later. The following semester, I became a news apprentice, stepping into a full editorship my sophomore year. Through the experience, I gained a greater appreciation for the bustling community that is Biola—its students, its administration, and its culture—and a deeper desire to serve it through storytelling. As my time as news editor drew to a close, I was encouraged to apply for the editor-in-chief position, a prospect which both intimidated and thrilled me. Yet I ultimately saw it as a way to better support the publication through which God showed me His desire for my life. Now, as I oversee the Chimes, I am committed to upholding myself and the newspaper to standard of excellence, and to helping train the next generation of student journalists.
